Event Description
This event is open to current and graduating students, as well as recent graduates (within the last 18 months) from Algonquin College, Carleton University, La Cité and University of Ottawa, and is being hosted by the Onley Initiative.
The Careers in Government event is not your typical career or networking event. It has been designed to engage students in FOUR very unique opportunities that they would not typically experience at a regular job fair:
FSWEP and GC Jobs Showcase
Students will have the opportunity to engage Hiring Managers from participating government departments and agencies in small networking hubs to learn about existing opportunities and to share skills, interests and career goals. There are 10+ government departments participating that may have jobs for FSWEP (Federal Student Work Exchange Program) part-time and full-time summer jobs and/or GC Jobs (Government of Canada) for graduating students/alumni seeking meaningful full-time employment upon completion of their studies. Hiring Managers will also be providing Discovery Letters to candidates – on site during the event – that they feel might be a good fit for their positions, to set up a time to meet at a later date.
FSWEP and GC Jobs On-Line Application Working Session
A hands-on, interactive working session facilitated by Government representatives will guide students through the on-line application process. This is a working session and all participants will have a completed (or near completed) application form ready for submission at the end of the event. Students will need to bring their laptops and/or devices to create applications, right on the spot!
Career Corner Networking Café
Designed for more casual networking as well as a chance for one-on-one conversations with hiring managers, Career and Co-op Office representatives, this area will provide students with the information needed to successfully navigate the employment process and secure meaningful work with the Federal Government of Canada.
Exclusive Resume Book
Attendees who register to attend the event by September 24th at 11:59pm will have an opportunity to have their updated resume* included in an exclusive RESUME BOOK which will be shared with attending government departments for the fair. Hiring Managers will be flagging resumes that are a fit for current available positions in both the FSWEP and GC Jobs pool and you may be contacted to set a time to meet for a conversation at the event! The last date for resumes to be included in the Resume Book is Friday, September 27th at 12:00 noon, but students must be registered to attend the event to be included.
*Note: Students submitting resumes by the deadline should make an appointment with their campus Career Services Office to have their resume reviewed BEFORE it is included in the Resume Book
